Monday: This week's feature composer is Antonio Vivaldi. The feature composition is the first movement of "Spring" from The Four Seasons. The first official day of spring, the spring equinox, takes place on March 20th (or 21st). People have celebrated the beginning of spring for centuries. Vivaldi, a musician who lived 250 years ago, was very sensitive to the changing seasons. He described spring in two ways. In words he said, "Spring has come, and the joyful birds greet it with merry song, and the brooks in Zephyr's gentle breezes, murmur quietly as they flow along. Then, hiding the sky with a black mantle, come both thunder and the lightning that announces it, and afterward, when these are silenced, the little birds begin again their enchanting songs." In music, he wrote the composition "Spring."
Tuesday: This week's feature composer is Antonio Vivaldi. The feature composition is the first movement of "Spring" from The Four Seasons."Spring has come, and the joyful birds greet it with merry song, and the brooks inZephyr's gentle breezes, murmur quietly as they flow along." Vivaldi composed "Spring" for string orchestra and he thought these instruments expressed his words very well. Vivaldi chose one instrument of the string orchestra, the violin, to sometimes play by itself. The violin leads the other instruments as "the little birds begin again their enchanting songs."

Vivaldi used the instruments of the string orchestra to describe the moods and sensations of spring. Sometimes, Vivaldi used the solo violin to announce, "Spring has come, and the joyful birds greet it with merry song."

That is right. Vivaldi was a musician who was sensitive to the changing of the seasons. He composed this music to celebrate the beginning of spring. Perhaps we will hear from Vivaldi again.
