1)       What is a Learning Styles Profile?

 It is an online questionnaire that helps you discover how your child learns best identifying

5 aspects of their learning style. It will give you learning strategies to help increase

comprehension, memorization and retention. It will also provide you with assignment ideas

and curriculum suggestions based on your child’s learning style.

2)      What are the benefits of taking the profile?

It gives teachers, parents and students a similar framework and language to use in creating

an individualized education plan. It also allows parents and teachers to better match

curriculum and learning opportunities to student’s learning style. It is empowering for

students to increase their awareness about how they best learn which can help solve

learning problems.

2)       What kind of feedback will I get from the profile?

After completing the survey, you will be able to access the report that explains your child’s disposition, talents, modalities, interests and environment. This report has specific information explaining each one of these 5 areas and gives specific recommendations for utilizing these to create the most successful learning environment.

4)       Who should take the profile?

The profile is available for all Pathways students and parents. It is often helpful for both parents and students to take the profile to compare learning styles. This can sometimes alleviate frustration and allow for more communication around differences in learning styles. The survey is also available for Non-Pathways siblings if it is prepaid.

5)       How much does it cost?

The online profile costs $25 for students and $10 for each parent. This will come out of the student’s budget. The cost for Non-Pathways student is $10. This must be prepaid with a check made out to Pathways.

6)       How do I sign up for one?

Talk to your Independent Study Teacher and tell them you are interested. You will need to provide them with the student and parent’s names, gender, ages (for the student), and e-mail address. You will then receive an e-mail with a user id and password and instructions on how to access the webpage.

• The book Discover Your Child’s Learning Style by Mariaemma Willis and Victoria Kindle Hodson is available on their website. Your IST also has a copy of the book if you are interested in looking at it. It provides an in-depth look at each of the aspects of learning style and has an extensive resource section on curriculum.
